Physical Therapist and Golf Performance

Physical therapists are professionals trained to assess and treat musculoskeletal and neuromuscular pathologies. Sprains, chronic pain, back pain, sports injuries, and rehabilitation after joint replacement surgery are only few examples of what physical therapists are able to manage.

Today, physical therapists (PTs) graduate from college with a master’s degree or a DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy). After graduation, they must pass a national examination to become licensed to practice. Once licensed, they may specialize in certain clinical applications such as orthopedics, sports physical therapy, neurological physical therapy, pediatrics, geriatrics, or cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.

How can a PT who is also a certified golf fitness instructor affect my game?

PTs use many physical rehabilitation modalities to help patients regain normal function. Some of these modalities include exercise, massage, mobilization or manipulation of joints, ultrasound, hot/cold packs, electrical stimulation, and aquatic therapy. Some PTs use hands-on techniques; others rely upon special exercise programs. However, most PTs use a combination of all the methods to achieve the best results.

How can physical therapy affect your game?

• Return to golf sooner after an injury or surgery
• Increase range of motion
• Increase strength
• Improve balance and coordination

Physical therapists certified in golf fitness combine their knowledge of anatomy and physiology with the biomechanics of golf to maximize your game. They can provide you with golf specific home exercise programs
